Beginning of year madness!!!

Oh my goodness I have been neglecting this blog that I was so excited to start. But no more!! To start off I am so blessed I have the best group of grade ones this year! They are a really well behaved group and we have been having a lot of fun learning! Daily 5 has been going great this year as this group was exposed to it in kindergarten. I plan on posting some pics of what we have been doing in the next few days. For SAGE this year I went to an inservice all about Beverly Tyner and small group guided reading instruction. I got some new ideas for word work and work on writing which I am excited to try out.


In math we just finished up a pumpkin investigation, where we estimated and measured a pumpkins height, circumference and the amount of seeds in a pumpkin. We also tasted pumpkin seeds and did a fun little graphing and writing activity I found at The Inspired Apple that fit in great! Click Here for the link to it.


In social studies we have been talking about being a good friend and our theme at school this month was kindness. Yesterday we read the book "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud. We talked about what we could do to fill other peoples buckets and how this can help to be a good friend. Then we did a neat activity I found on TPT from Steph at www.dreambigkinders.ca It worked perfectly! Click Here
